RANDOM SCENARIO MEME
1. Zombies → It's the zombie apocalypse, lock and load!
2. Bar brawl → You had one too many drinks, said something wrong, and now you're being asked to take it outside.

INSOMNIA
01 • FEAR. Maybe you're hearing strange, indeterminable noises; maybe there's a severe storm happening outside; maybe you watched a scary movie before bed? Whatever the reason, you're terrified and it's keeping you awake. You just want to wake someone else up so they can protect you from the monster in your closet.
02 • HUNGER. Your stomach is growling and it just won't stop. Or perhaps your throat is so dry you could cough up a tumbleweed? Well, you've gone to the kitchen to remedy this and hey, that was a pan that just dropped on the floor. It was loud enough to wake the dead! Oops.
03 • PAIN. Your body is completely worn out, be it from exercise, battle, sickness, or what have you. Either way you're in enough pain to keep you from sleeping, so maybe someone else has a home remedy or something, or can at least help you take your mind off of it.
04 • SOLITUDE. For some reason, your bed just feels so empty at the moment. You're feeling terribly lonely and really just want someone to keep you company for a while. Maybe it'd be easier to fall asleep if you're with them...
05 • DISCOMFORT. Your room is an oven. Either that or a freezer. Or maybe this bed is just really uncomfortable? Who knows why you can't get to sleep, it feels like it could be anything. Why even bother trying? Maybe someone else can preoccupy you until you feel tired enough to ignore your discomfort.
06 • PENSIVE. Something's on your mind, and no matter how hard you try to focus elsewhere, it's just not going to work. Your body may be tired, but your mind is incredibly busy and it's virtually impossible to get to sleep. Surely, talking it out with someone else will help?
07 • SADNESS. Something terrible has happened that day, perhaps; or you could just be severely depressed. Either way you're trying your hardest not to cry yourself to sleep, and it's not working at all. Better find a way to get it out of your system somehow; you need a shoulder to cry on.
08 • ANGER. You are just... fuming. Who knows why - that annoying dog is barking again, or maybe the people next door are getting busy and keeping you awake. Whatever the reason for your ire is, you'd better put an end to it so you can get some damn rest already! Go wake up a friend so you can complain to them.
09 • RESTLESS. You're far too energetic to sleep right now. Maybe you're just trying to do so out of necessity - you have to be up early tomorrow! But you just don't think you'll be able to fall asleep for a while now, so why waste the time trying to sleep when you could be doing something else? Namely bothering someone else - you're totally jealous because they're getting more sleep than you.

CITY AT NIGHT
1) WORKING.
You're still caught up at the office or wherever it is you're holed up. It's getting late, but there's work to be done.
2) RELAXING.
You're warm and comfortable someplace indoors, whether it's in a cozy nook of a café or maybe just in your own apartment. There's no other place you really need to be, is there?
3) MEET-UP/DATE.
Is there someone you're seeing for dinner? A date? Maybe you're going bar-hopping together with some friends, or your attendance is expected at some special event. Alternatively, there's someone you're meeting with to make a deal of some kind, whether it's perfectly legitimate or something that might invite trouble with local enforcement.
4) OUT FOR A WALK.
Sometimes, it's nice to get out for some fresh air—or, well, as fresh as it gets with all the air pollution around you. The park's not too far away; it might be nice and quiet at this hour, if you don't run into any...
5) TROUBLE.
It's getting late and it's dark outside, but someone has been tailing you for a while. Walking faster only makes them speed up; they're doggedly persistent. What to do now? Is there a busy street you can turn on to for help? Or maybe it's time to confront your pursuer... On the flip side, you're the one tracking someone. For what reason? Well, only you would know, right?
6) OTHER.

A) STREETS/ALLEYS.
Are you visiting a busy district teeming with people? Or are you out on a quieter street? It can be dark out there, especially if you turn onto a smaller one without many streetlamps. Watch your step. Some of the alleyways might make good shortcuts if you're trying to get somewhere fast, but there's also trouble to be found sometimes. Don't get cornered anywhere, and especially don't get too curious if you see something suspicious in one of the dumpsters...
B) IN TRANSIT.
You're between locations right now, just trying to get on with your evening. You have some options, like public transportation: the bus, the train, the subway. Alternatively, you're a fancier kind of person: you've got your own car that you're driving, or better yet, you have a chauffeur and a private car. Or, you know, you're just taking a taxi or using a ride-share app. There are also transitional spaces like parking lots or garages.
C) DINING.
Some cities are melting pots of different cultures; you're bound to find countless spots at which to eat. There are small cafés if you want a quick bite, or fancier restaurants where you can wine and dine. You could support a small family business by dropping by at a local hole in the wall—sometimes the most authentic spots with the best food are nondescript locations. Or if you're really trying to impress, go for some famous Michelin three-star.
D) NIGHT LIFE.
Bars, clubs, lounges—all of it's fair game. Remember to drink responsibly—or don't, if you're looking to really forget about your troubles for a while. Just know that you'll only have yourself to blame for that raging hangover in the morning.
E) CORPORATE BUILDING.
In a larger city, major corporations might be headquartered in the glittering skyscrapers that line the most expensive districts. There are all kinds of businesses—banks, law firms, finance companies, tech groups, to state just a few. Some places might keep their lights on pretty late at night for the white-collar workers burning the midnight oil; others, perhaps not. Do you fit somewhere in this equation? Or if you're here for something more exciting, there's always corporate espionage...
F) SHOPS.
A lot of shops could be closed by now, but maybe it's that final hour before that mall or outlet you wanted to visit locks their doors for the evening. Time for some last-second shopping! Snatch up that deal before it's gone, or be sure to buy a gift for your date before it's too late!
G) HOME.
You're at home, wherever that is—an apartment, a condo, a house somewhere, or maybe something more extravagant. Real estate can get expensive in the city, especially in popular locations. Do you have a tiny apartment that covers all your basic needs? Or something much nicer, like the type of penthouse people usually only see in movies, complete with floor-to-ceiling windows?
H) CITY SQUARE.
Some city squares are hubs of activity, filled with street performers, pop-up stores, or food stalls. There's a lot you could do, especially when it's nighttime and the little lights strung around the place look so pretty.
I) ABANDONED SPACE.
Every city has its fair share of abandoned warehouses or other buildings that are slated for demolition. Sometimes they attract certain types of crowds that would make your average person think twice before confronting. A lot of places are off-limits, but every so often, the no-trespassing sign is more of a suggestion than a real threat, right?

[Tifa stares at her for a few more beats before she's blinking one eye shut, and then the other, trying to imagine in her head what that would look like.]
It's close enough to brown that it wouldn't be such a bold change, but far enough away that it would be something. Plus...
[She cants her head with a fond smile.]

[Aerith quiets for several long moments, realising that Tifa’s got a point. Red is pretty close to brown, so it’s not as if it would be a completely jarring experience to make that change. Not like… black. Black would be a big adjustment.
When Tifa makes mention of her eyes, Aerith looks over to her and raises her eyebrows, fanning fingertips along her bottom lip in consideration.]
I didn’t know you looked at my eyes so much.
[She turns just a touch pink at the thought. But it’s not as if she hasn’t spent her own share of time admiring Tifa’s.]

The colour in Aerith's cheeks is contagious, and it spreads over Tifa's, too. She meets her gaze, only briefly, before she's skirting it away again, back down to where her coffee sits in her hands. And she's suddenly very, very aware of everything about herself. The way she's sitting and holding onto her cup, how hot her face is, and the way her thumbs fidget.]
I mean... could you blame me?
[They're like emeralds, and when the light catches them just right, they seem to sparkle. It's hard not to stare at them. Not to mention the fact that Tifa has always thought Aerith was very beautiful. Both inside and out... to the point where maybe she was a little jealous of her sometimes.]

For some breaths, she doesn't say anything immediately. Compliments aren't necessarily a foreign thing to her. She doesn't usually listen to them, she finds. They don't usually come from people who mean them. It strikes a little differently when it comes from someone who is so painfully genuine. Eventually she smiles into her own cup and her head tilts.]

[Lifting an arm, she stretches it above her head, buying some time to say something a little more worthy of glowing remarks. Nothing really comes to her, though.]
Hum... If you ever think you aren't beautiful, I'll remind you. Every day, if you want. I'm not afraid of doing that. It's something I think you need to hear more often, anyway. Too easy to get caught up in how we think of ourselves, after all. Sometimes we need outside eyes.

[It's alright, Tifa is just as embarrassed about having said those things, and her flush only deepens as Aerith returns the sentiments tenfold. It's true—they really do get caught up in how they see themselves that it can be hard to remember that there are good, beautiful things about them, too. Aerith seems like the kind of person who would be good at finding those things in others...
Of course, Tifa caves under the heat in her cheeks, and she leans back a little with a slap of her hand on her leg. Had she been staring at Aerith for a little too long just now? She feels like it, and now she's suddenly self-conscious about it.]

Maybe it’s Aerith who’s been looking at her for far too long. But that’s just how she is. She wants to get to know those around her. She wants to understand them, so she can be as good to them as they deserve and more. It’s important to be able to read others. It’s important to have that observation and that empathy. That just seems like the right thing to do.
Her eyebrows raise again. A braid… She could see it, though she loves Tifa’s free-falling hair. It’s probably incredibly soft. It’d be nice to sit and card her fingers through it, but to do that, she’d have to be so close and she’s not certain Tifa would forgive it.]
You want a braid, huh? We can do that. My mom usually does mine, but I know how braids work. Easier to braid your hair than it would be to do mine. You want me to braid it for you? You can see if you like it or not.
[...And it would give Aerith a pragmatic reason to touch Tifa’s hair. She can’t help wondering if it’s a little selfish of her to present such an option.]

[She's not sure why she's suddenly feeling so nervous about this. It's not as if Aerith is a stranger, but this is so out of her usual comfort zone that she can't help the little flutter in her stomach as she does just that—gets comfortable on the couch with her cup of coffee nursed gently between her hands.
She does pull her hair loose, letting it fall free of the band that holds it all in place, and it spills across the cushions before she self-consciously combs what she can over her shoulder while she waits for Aerith to return.]
Maybe you can give me a few pointers while you're at it. Marlene likes to have her hair braided too, even if it is a little short, but... I only know the basic stuff.

With a great deal of care, she gathers up locks of black and pulls her hairbrush through the ends before working her way gradually up. It’s the best way to find tangles and remove them without causing too much discomfort. Or so Aerith has always thought.]

[Quite the opposite.
Her voice is calm, almost distant as Aerith runs the brush through her hair. It's calming, and it feels oddly nice. It brings her back to simpler days when she was just a girl, and her mother would do the same. It could put her to sleep if Aerith goes on for long, so she tries to focus on her voice and what she's saying to keep herself from dozing off on her.]
French braids? I don't think I've ever done those before... but they don't seem all that easy to do.
[Though, she does imagine that Marlene would look cute in just about any hairstyle they try on her. Braided pigtails would be nice, too.
Just gotta keep talking, but even from behind, Aerith will likely be able to see Tifa's whole body starting to relax.]

[Setting down her brush when she's satisfied, Aerith cards fingers carefully through Tifa's hair, trying to gather it up into a hair tie before she proceeds to separate into a few equal sections. It's easy to get caught up in the autopilot feeling of it. It's relaxing, not having to rush from one moment to the next. Just these breaths of respite.
...Wouldn't surprise her if Tifa felt the same way.]
And no. Should be able to do it with any length of hair. [She leans forward and sets her chin to Tifa's shoulder with a smile.] Do you want me to do a French braid instead?

[She's a very well put-together woman who likes to keep herself tidy, but she hardly puts so much stock into how she looks on a day-to-day basis. Tifa likes to leave things simple, really. Simple and practical would be her style, so anything past a simple long braid is so out of her wheelhouse.
But Aerith's opinion matters just a touch too much for Tifa to simply throw the question away. It's just a silly sleepover and it's not like they have anywhere to go, but what Aerith thinks of her is important, and she's finding that the feeling is only growing the longer she spends with her.]

[Aerith offers a quiet laugh that she stifles ever just so against the turn of Tifa's neck. Really? Does she worry about that kind of thing so much? Tifa's already so pretty to behold. She could probably roll right out of bed, lazily pull a brush through her hair, and still look perfect. But maybe Aerith is just ridiculously biased. She could believe it. When people form attachments to others, sometimes what they see is just defined by their feelings.
Lifting herself from where she's comfortably pinioned and thinking that there's something so welcoming and secure about being close to Tifa, Aerith draws in a breath, gradually piecing herself together. A small dusting of pink sprinkled atop her cheeks, she reconsiders how she's separated the sections of Tifa's hair, opting for taking some smaller ones and starting at the top of her head.
She leaves the feathered bangs as they are. It'll add depth to the sculpting of Tifa's jaw.]
It's not difficult, either. Even if it was, I'd still do it. Doesn't really matter to me. I just... want to be close to you, I guess. If it's okay for me to say something like that.
