RANDOM SCENARIO MEME

INSOMNIA
01 • FEAR. Maybe you're hearing strange, indeterminable noises; maybe there's a severe storm happening outside; maybe you watched a scary movie before bed? Whatever the reason, you're terrified and it's keeping you awake. You just want to wake someone else up so they can protect you from the monster in your closet.
02 • HUNGER. Your stomach is growling and it just won't stop. Or perhaps your throat is so dry you could cough up a tumbleweed? Well, you've gone to the kitchen to remedy this and hey, that was a pan that just dropped on the floor. It was loud enough to wake the dead! Oops.
03 • PAIN. Your body is completely worn out, be it from exercise, battle, sickness, or what have you. Either way you're in enough pain to keep you from sleeping, so maybe someone else has a home remedy or something, or can at least help you take your mind off of it.
04 • SOLITUDE. For some reason, your bed just feels so empty at the moment. You're feeling terribly lonely and really just want someone to keep you company for a while. Maybe it'd be easier to fall asleep if you're with them...
05 • DISCOMFORT. Your room is an oven. Either that or a freezer. Or maybe this bed is just really uncomfortable? Who knows why you can't get to sleep, it feels like it could be anything. Why even bother trying? Maybe someone else can preoccupy you until you feel tired enough to ignore your discomfort.
06 • PENSIVE. Something's on your mind, and no matter how hard you try to focus elsewhere, it's just not going to work. Your body may be tired, but your mind is incredibly busy and it's virtually impossible to get to sleep. Surely, talking it out with someone else will help?
07 • SADNESS. Something terrible has happened that day, perhaps; or you could just be severely depressed. Either way you're trying your hardest not to cry yourself to sleep, and it's not working at all. Better find a way to get it out of your system somehow; you need a shoulder to cry on.
08 • ANGER. You are just... fuming. Who knows why - that annoying dog is barking again, or maybe the people next door are getting busy and keeping you awake. Whatever the reason for your ire is, you'd better put an end to it so you can get some damn rest already! Go wake up a friend so you can complain to them.

But you just don't think you'll be able to fall asleep for a while now, so why waste the time trying to sleep when you could be doing something else? CITY AT NIGHT
1) WORKING.
You're still caught up at the office or wherever it is you're holed up. It's getting late, but there's work to be done.
2) RELAXING.
You're warm and comfortable someplace indoors, whether it's in a cozy nook of a café or maybe just in your own apartment. There's no other place you really need to be, is there?
3) MEET-UP/DATE.
Is there someone you're seeing for dinner? A date? Maybe you're going bar-hopping together with some friends, or your attendance is expected at some special event. Alternatively, there's someone you're meeting with to make a deal of some kind, whether it's perfectly legitimate or something that might invite trouble with local enforcement.
4) OUT FOR A WALK.
Sometimes, it's nice to get out for some fresh air—or, well, as fresh as it gets with all the air pollution around you. The park's not too far away; it might be nice and quiet at this hour, if you don't run into any...
5) TROUBLE.
It's getting late and it's dark outside, but someone has been tailing you for a while. Walking faster only makes them speed up; they're doggedly persistent. What to do now? Is there a busy street you can turn on to for help? Or maybe it's time to confront your pursuer... On the flip side, you're the one tracking someone. For what reason? Well, only you would know, right?
6) OTHER.

A) STREETS/ALLEYS.
Are you visiting a busy district teeming with people? Or are you out on a quieter street? It can be dark out there, especially if you turn onto a smaller one without many streetlamps. Watch your step. Some of the alleyways might make good shortcuts if you're trying to get somewhere fast, but there's also trouble to be found sometimes. Don't get cornered anywhere, and especially don't get too curious if you see something suspicious in one of the dumpsters...
B) IN TRANSIT.
You're between locations right now, just trying to get on with your evening. You have some options, like public transportation: the bus, the train, the subway. Alternatively, you're a fancier kind of person: you've got your own car that you're driving, or better yet, you have a chauffeur and a private car. Or, you know, you're just taking a taxi or using a ride-share app. There are also transitional spaces like parking lots or garages.
C) DINING.
Some cities are melting pots of different cultures; you're bound to find countless spots at which to eat. There are small cafés if you want a quick bite, or fancier restaurants where you can wine and dine. You could support a small family business by dropping by at a local hole in the wall—sometimes the most authentic spots with the best food are nondescript locations. Or if you're really trying to impress, go for some famous Michelin three-star.
D) NIGHT LIFE.
Bars, clubs, lounges—all of it's fair game. Remember to drink responsibly—or don't, if you're looking to really forget about your troubles for a while. Just know that you'll only have yourself to blame for that raging hangover in the morning.
E) CORPORATE BUILDING.
In a larger city, major corporations might be headquartered in the glittering skyscrapers that line the most expensive districts. There are all kinds of businesses—banks, law firms, finance companies, tech groups, to state just a few. Some places might keep their lights on pretty late at night for the white-collar workers burning the midnight oil; others, perhaps not. Do you fit somewhere in this equation? Or if you're here for something more exciting, there's always corporate espionage...
F) SHOPS.
A lot of shops could be closed by now, but maybe it's that final hour before that mall or outlet you wanted to visit locks their doors for the evening. Time for some last-second shopping! Snatch up that deal before it's gone, or be sure to buy a gift for your date before it's too late!
G) HOME.
You're at home, wherever that is—an apartment, a condo, a house somewhere, or maybe something more extravagant. Real estate can get expensive in the city, especially in popular locations. Do you have a tiny apartment that covers all your basic needs? Or something much nicer, like the type of penthouse people usually only see in movies, complete with floor-to-ceiling windows?
H) CITY SQUARE.
Some city squares are hubs of activity, filled with street performers, pop-up stores, or food stalls. There's a lot you could do, especially when it's nighttime and the little lights strung around the place look so pretty.
I) ABANDONED SPACE.
Every city has its fair share of abandoned warehouses or other buildings that are slated for demolition. Sometimes they attract certain types of crowds that would make your average person think twice before confronting. A lot of places are off-limits, but every so often, the no-trespassing sign is more of a suggestion than a real threat, right?

[And it won't be long before the doors of Seventh Heaven burst open, and if Vincent listens carefully, a wind whistles across the threshold like this is a tacky old Western movie. That, or it's just Yuffie sweeping her foot across the door after she (gently) kicks it. She respects Tifa enough not to blast the thing right off its hinges and fling it across the bar, because that is absolutely what would happen if she were to do what she imagined she just did in her head.
She clears her throat and trots inside of the empty bar, and Tifa is there at the counter, turning to greet Yuffie with a smile to match her own brightness. Meanwhile, it seems the teenager hasn't even noticed Vincent. Or she has, and is making a very concerted effort to save him for last.]
Heya, Tifa! Sorry for dropping in on the fly like this.
[Tifa shakes her head. "It's fine." And she waves a dismissive towel in Vincent's direction, a knowing grin on her face as her red eyes connect with his. "I'll let you two get to it. I gotta go check up on the voicemails upstairs anyway." And just like that, Tifa's shuffling out from behind the bar and heading for the back.
Yuffie eyes Vincent from across the bar... before she spins around on her heel and lands with a mighty plop in the booth nearest him.]
Yeesh. Forgot how much I don't like this city... [She sits up before he even has a chance to answer.] How long have you been here with that broken phone of yours?

But he'd never really had the heart to ask Tifa about much of anything, related to Cloud: he'd never really wanted to see the way her eyes pulled down at times, worried and quiet.
By the time that Yuffie makes her grand entrance, he's all but rolled his eyes to the back of the bar, studying the bottles there as he waits--and, with a fleeting look that seems to say please save me, directed at Tifa's retreating back, he realizes he's alone with his usual fighting companion, and there, of course, he'll have to bring up the topic of his broken phone.
--which he takes in one hand, stepping away from the bar so that he can approach the booth where Yuffie took her seat, setting the device down calmly on the table. ]
Long enough. [ --is what he says, lowly, his chin tucked down against his collar. ] It isn't fixable?
[ ...The phone looks like it's been crushed, the screen splintering out from a large crack in the corner. He stares at Yuffie, impatient. ]
We will have to venture out to get a new one. That is my unfortunate realization.

You only realize that after I came all the way here? [SIGH...] You know how many favours I owe Cid now!?
[It became "I'll come to you when I need it" with him in exchange for a lift, and for as much as she huffed and puffed and groaned about it all while slouched over on the floor of the ship, Yuffie is a girl of her word. People might call her lazy or flighty, capricious, maybe a bit irresponsible when she feels like it, but she isn't so dishonourable that she wouldn't keep her promises. She lives by a code, after all.
Though, she's wondering if she should start doubting said code while she continues to stare at Vincent's poor phone.]
Looks like Cloud ran over it a few times with his bike so doubt it's fixable. Ain't even gonna try at this point. You would just be better off getting a new one...
[A pause.]
You're gonna ask me next to come with you, aren't you?

Slowly, his hand lifts from beneath the table of the booth, and he carefully draws the phone back across it with sharp fingers, dragging it like one might drag a body into the hole it's meant to stay in. The broken device disappears into the folds of his cape again; better to let it rest in peace, then, rather than parade it around.
That's a sentiment that weighs surprisingly heavy on him, when he thinks of it that way. ]
...You know what kind to get. [ --is the explanation he gives, solemn, as he turns to slide himself out of the booth, too. He isn't the type to linger around if it isn't worth anything, and Yuffie's general air of impatience isn't lost on him, either, though he knows she doesn't mean it in a bad way. ] And I want...

[Not that she'll give him a moment to protest, let alone process it, because she's already strutting her way to the door and swinging it open. The bell jingles to beckon him, and Yuffie props it open with a foot.]
After you! It's been a while since I've been back here so I wouldn't know the best places to shop anyway.
[She has no reason to come by Midgar—or rather, Edge, as often these days... She never did, to be fair, but even less so now. She has no taste for the big city and has spent much of her time on the road and they've spent so many months rebuilding that each time she makes a return to Edge, it's different.]

The new city is still budding, but thanks to the efforts of people like Cloud and, as much as he hates to say it, the efforts of Shinra trying to make amends, it seems to be flourishing, at least in some places. The rubble is slowly starting to take shape as houses and apartments, and even the shopping district, where they're headed, is now starting to look a bit healthier than just rickety side stalls and broken windows in old buildings. With his arms tucked into the folds of his cape, he moves silently, his stride long and pointed, knowing that Yuffie will either have to keep up--or die trying. ]
...Pretty sure we want something down here. [ --is the first thing he says, as they come to a stop at the end of the shopping street. Naturally, it appears to be quite crowded with other patrons; shop clerks call out to encourage people to come visit their displays and buy their wares. ] Just...
[ Naturally, when he turns to look over his shoulder, Yuffie has already wandered past him. Maybe something caught her eye? Begrudgingly, he trails after her like a shadow, almost as though he's ready to interfere if anyone tries to take advantage of her good nature, though he knows it's unnecessary. ]

It's almost eerie how much this reminds her of the slums of Midgar. Although cleaner and without the awful rotten stench, it's busy. Crowded. For all the pain and strife that swept through the old city, parts of Edge hustle and bustle like nothing ever happened... And Yuffie still doesn't know how she feels about it. The skip in her step lessens the further she leads Vincent along, so much that she almost trips when a pair of kids cut right in front of her.
She tries not to think about it when she comes back here, but when it's all right in her face like it is now, it's harder to ignore. Still doesn't mean she won't try.
Which is why she's grateful that she at least has some company, quiet and broody as it is. She's not sure why she's always felt a little more connected to Vincent—an outsider's thing, maybe? —but it's a hell of a lot better listening to Barret and Cid's shouting or Cloud's complaining. At least Vincent does it quietly when he does.
Her hands slip behind her head, and she whirls around to face him with a toothy but crooked grin, walking backwards as she wanders through the chaos of the marketplace. Yeah, yeah, she should probably watch where she's going, she can already hear it—]

[ He repeats it with the same sort of distaste that he might use for someone telling him to visit the bare bones of the new Shinra building. Immediately, his head turns to the side, looking at whatever it is the shop they've just passed is selling. ]
And where would I be traveling to? We still haven't updated most of the maps out there. Uncharted territory, after...
[ Well, he doesn't have to say it. She knows, just as well as he knows. There's been talk, of course, between Cloud and Tifa and the others, and Cid has volunteered the airship to take it out in order to start piecing together what the world looks like, after Meteorfall. Likely he should be one of the first volunteering, given that he doesn't have much else to do; he isn't quite sure how he feels about it all, yet.
A part of him just feels uneasy about it, like the way Edge makes the both of them feel a little raw. The world seems to be healing a little faster, and in the wrong ways, maybe; he isn't sure he likes it. ]
The camera is a necessity. [ That much, he gives up to her: in his usual stubborn voice. The shop is close, now, but Yuffie's walking means she nearly collides with a group of kids chattering over phone cases; he reaches out an arm to yank her forward, pulling her against him for a moment until the kids pass. ] For... a friend. [She trips on her own feet and tumbles, crashing right into him when he pulls her. She'd immediately chastise him for it if it weren't for the fact that the kids all scold her instead for almost bumping into them... which she will conveniently ignore in that selective way that Yuffie tends to do, and instead brushes herself off with a huff when they're back to safety.
And walking forwards because no way is she letting Vincent do that again.
That, however, doesn't stop her from snickering to herself.]

[With a raised brow, she glances at him through the corners of her eyes him... and he'll feel a hard nudge of her elbow against his side.]

[A girl, maybe? Or a guy? A part of her is teasing him, but this whole thing just feels so out of Vincent's element, and she laughs again when she imagines every single picture on his camera roll being the same grumpy old expression that he wears... when he isn't hiding behind that ridiculous cloak of his. Which makes the thought of anyone else standing beside him in them even funnier, and she tries to stifle the laughter this time, snorting instead.
Even Yuffie, who has spent more time with him than the others in their merry little band, can sometimes stick out like a sore thumb at Vincent's side.]

He still isn't really denying it, though, even as they round on the shop--he pulls the door open, stiffly, and stands there, pointedly waiting for Yuffie to walk in ahead of him. He always wants to be able to watch her back. ]
Yes. A friend. [ He says this with a faint roll of his eyes. Wasn't that obvious? ] I suppose she's special. In her own way.
[ And if Yuffie isn't through the door yet, he's pushing her the rest of the way. The door tinkles with bells behind them as it shuts, and he stands like a dark shadow at Yuffie's back, almost amusingly waiting for her to approach the counter instead of him.
This is why he brought her, after all. He needs her help. ]

He will need to push her, but she moves inside easily enough, only almost tripping once before she's standing in the entrance of the shop. It's not as busy as some of the others along the street at least, but she doesn't need further telling to jump right into things.

Perhaps not in the way Vincent is expecting. Or maybe it's exactly the way he is.

But Yuffie isn't rushing straight to the man reading his book at the counter waiting for customers. She heads for the displays instead where all the fancier phones are. Flip phones are "in" right now, but lately, they have been releasing "touch phones", as they like to call them and they're all the rage, even if most people don't have the gil to afford them.
She picks one up in her hands and waves it at Vincent as the screen flickers on.]
