01 โข FEAR. Maybe you're hearing strange, indeterminable noises; maybe there's a severe storm happening outside; maybe you watched a scary movie before bed? Whatever the reason, you're terrified and it's keeping you awake. You just want to wake someone else up so they can protect you from the monster in your closet.
02 โข HUNGER. Your stomach is growling and it just won't stop. Or perhaps your throat is so dry you could cough up a tumbleweed? Well, you've gone to the kitchen to remedy this and hey, that was a pan that just dropped on the floor. It was loud enough to wake the dead! Oops.
03 โข PAIN. Your body is completely worn out, be it from exercise, battle, sickness, or what have you. Either way you're in enough pain to keep you from sleeping, so maybe someone else has a home remedy or something, or can at least help you take your mind off of it.
04 โข SOLITUDE. For some reason, your bed just feels so empty at the moment. You're feeling terribly lonely and really just want someone to keep you company for a while. Maybe it'd be easier to fall asleep if you're with them...
05 โข DISCOMFORT. Your room is an oven. Either that or a freezer. Or maybe this bed is just really uncomfortable? Who knows why you can't get to sleep, it feels like it could be anything. Why even bother trying? Maybe someone else can preoccupy you until you feel tired enough to ignore your discomfort.
06 โข PENSIVE. Something's on your mind, and no matter how hard you try to focus elsewhere, it's just not going to work. Your body may be tired, but your mind is incredibly busy and it's virtually impossible to get to sleep. Surely, talking it out with someone else will help?
07 โข SADNESS. Something terrible has happened that day, perhaps; or you could just be severely depressed. Either way you're trying your hardest not to cry yourself to sleep, and it's not working at all. Better find a way to get it out of your system somehow; you need a shoulder to cry on.

CITY AT NIGHT
1) WORKING.
You're still caught up at the office or wherever it is you're holed up. It's getting late, but there's work to be done.

You're warm and comfortable someplace indoors, whether it's in a cozy nook of a cafรฉ or maybe just in your own apartment. There's no other place you really need to be, is there?
3) MEET-UP/DATE.
Is there someone you're seeing for dinner? A date? Maybe you're going bar-hopping together with some friends, or your attendance is expected at some special event. Alternatively, there's someone you're meeting with to make a deal of some kind, whether it's perfectly legitimate or something that might invite trouble with local enforcement.
4) OUT FOR A WALK.
Sometimes, it's nice to get out for some fresh airโor, well, as fresh as it gets with all the air pollution around you. The park's not too far away; it might be nice and quiet at this hour, if you don't run into any...
5) TROUBLE.
It's getting late and it's dark outside, but someone has been tailing you for a while. Walking faster only makes them speed up; they're doggedly persistent. What to do now? Is there a busy street you can turn on to for help? Or maybe it's time to confront your pursuer... On the flip side, you're the one tracking someone. For what reason? Well, only you would know, right?

A) STREETS/ALLEYS.
Are you visiting a busy district teeming with people? Or are you out on a quieter street? It can be dark out there, especially if you turn onto a smaller one without many streetlamps. Watch your step. Some of the alleyways might make good shortcuts if you're trying to get somewhere fast, but there's also trouble to be found sometimes. Don't get cornered anywhere, and especially don't get too curious if you see something suspicious in one of the dumpsters...
B) IN TRANSIT.
You're between locations right now, just trying to get on with your evening. You have some options, like public transportation: the bus, the train, the subway. Alternatively, you're a fancier kind of person: you've got your own car that you're driving, or better yet, you have a chauffeur and a private car. Or, you know, you're just taking a taxi or using a ride-share app. There are also transitional spaces like parking lots or garages.
C) DINING.
Some cities are melting pots of different cultures; you're bound to find countless spots at which to eat. There are small cafรฉs if you want a quick bite, or fancier restaurants where you can wine and dine. You could support a small family business by dropping by at a local hole in the wallโsometimes the most authentic spots with the best food are nondescript locations. Or if you're really trying to impress, go for some famous Michelin three-star.
D) NIGHT LIFE.
Bars, clubs, loungesโall of it's fair game. Remember to drink responsiblyโor don't, if you're looking to really forget about your troubles for a while. Just know that you'll only have yourself to blame for that raging hangover in the morning.
E) CORPORATE BUILDING.
In a larger city, major corporations might be headquartered in the glittering skyscrapers that line the most expensive districts. There are all kinds of businessesโbanks, law firms, finance companies, tech groups, to state just a few. Some places might keep their lights on pretty late at night for the white-collar workers burning the midnight oil; others, perhaps not. Do you fit somewhere in this equation? Or if you're here for something more exciting, there's always corporate espionage...
F) SHOPS.
A lot of shops could be closed by now, but maybe it's that final hour before that mall or outlet you wanted to visit locks their doors for the evening. Time for some last-second shopping! Snatch up that deal before it's gone, or be sure to buy a gift for your date before it's too late!
G) HOME.
You're at home, wherever that isโan apartment, a condo, a house somewhere, or maybe something more extravagant. Real estate can get expensive in the city, especially in popular locations. Do you have a tiny apartment that covers all your basic needs? Or something much nicer, like the type of penthouse people usually only see in movies, complete with floor-to-ceiling windows?
H) CITY SQUARE.
Some city squares are hubs of activity, filled with street performers, pop-up stores, or food stalls. There's a lot you could do, especially when it's nighttime and the little lights strung around the place look so pretty.
I) ABANDONED SPACE.
Every city has its fair share of abandoned warehouses or other buildings that are slated for demolition. Sometimes they attract certain types of crowds that would make your average person think twice before confronting. A lot of places are off-limits, but every so often, the no-trespassing sign is more of a suggestion than a real threat, right?
J) OTHER.

I think if we don't get lost down here, it'll take us twenty minutes or so to get to the other side. [That's a big if; narrow tunnels mean lots of opportunities to take a wrong turn, in Krile's opinion.
But then an angry cry echoes down the tunnel, and out of one of those passages comes a raging ball of angry blue feathers, and a beak, and poison-tipped claws.]
Look out!
[She tries to shove Yuffie out of the way, but it's a small space and it's a lot of eagle--]

[Yuffie manages to dodge just in time before she winds up with a mouthful of feathers, or worse, a poison-tipped claw to the face or a peck of its beak in the eye. Instead, she's forced to slam against the wall of the tunnel, and she drags Krile with her, falling back against it with a grunt.
The eagle scrambles as well, flapping its wings violently, but it's hard to tell if it's trying to fend them off or simply get past them. Either way, Yuffie's not about to let it through without a fight.]
Alright, you stupid bird...! Let's rumbโhuh!?
[She whips out her shurikenโor tries to, but she's stuck halfway.]

But this tunnel isn't a good place for a big throwing weapon like the shuriken--and as Krile tries to distance herself to find more room, she finds it's not that good for a magic staff, either. Her instincts are screaming at her to run and find more room, but her other thoughts say that's a bad idea in a narrow cave full of little tunnels. "More distance" could mean "hopelessly lost" too quick.
In the one second she's busy deciding what to do, the eagle lashes out with its talons--Krile tries to thwack it away, and saves her face. But not her forearm.]

[All Yuffie can do when the giant bird attacks her arm is swat at it with the shuriken, careful not to hit Krile with its sharpened ends as she beats at it until it finally relents and lets go, falling to the ground so that it can hop away from them and put some distance before it inevitably swoops in for another attack.]
We need to get out! No way I can fight this stupid thing in here, it's too cramped!

She's not used to getting hurt in battle. She has been in battle, but with soldiers around her, and at the back of the battle line with her wind drake. But she knows what you're supposed to do--it's to keep going. And also cuss. So if there's a litany of antiquated cussing like 'blasted belabored buzzard' and 'consarn it' coming out in a rapid-fire mutter, well, that's the Baldesion way.]
Okay! Let's just get back out.
[Maybe there's a way over the rockslide after all.
And in the meantime, she aims a Blizzard spell at the eagle, sending a line of ice spikes up from the floor to force it back another step or two. It'll be easier for Yuffie to stall it if she's got another few seconds.]

Yuffie lets Krile squeeze past first after she's managed to get her blizzard spell off, and the bird flaps its wings as it tries to avoid flying right into them when it gives chase, and she does break out into a run after her to give herself a bit of extra space before she's skidding to a halt.]
You picked the wrong tree today.
[A wall of electricity shoots up from the ground, and there's an ungodly screech as the lightning clips the birds wings and chops the tip of one of its talons clean off. It won't last long, however, and when it all dies away, it screeches again, louder and more aggressive this time.]
I think I pissed it off...
[And she's turning on her heel and stumbling forward after Krile, and she can hear its wings WHOOSHING directly behind her.]

[They need to go. NOW!]

And by the sounds of the flapping wings behind them, they've got more work to do before that happens. As soon as Krile exits the mouth of the tunnel, she throws herself to the side so that Yuffie has plenty of room to get away from the eagle. She lifts her rod in her good hand, ready to unleash another blast of magic if it's not content with merely chasing them out.]

[A futile thing to say because 1. it's already happened and 2. the eagle heard them, and it's coming down to teach Yuffie a lesson. Krile quickly raises her staff to shoot a Thunder spell at it, and it hits, but--well, in accordance with the laws of physics, that means an angry-but-temporarily-stunned eagle is still barreling towards them. At speed.]

[It's all she says as the lightning cracks at the eagle, clipping one of its wings and singeing the tips of its feathers as it swoops back around, its black eyes fixed menacingly on one (1) ninja and her shuriken now that she has it out.
But she isn't about to back down from a fight. Not with some stupid bird. So as soon as it comes down at them, she leaps up and... lands on its back...]

[Yeah, this is probably fine. As it swings and spins and flaps and tries to turn around to peck at her and her hands that dig into its feathers.]

granted, it does look like something Faris would try, but there's a difference between a self-assured pirate captain doing something so swashbuckling and a cocksure ninja, but, OKAY, GOTTA TAKE IT DOWN and without hurting Yuffie in the process--

[The magic that shoots out of her staff has an oddly... rubbery quality. Not the dramatic whoosh and sparkle you get from elemental magic. What you do get is a big angry eagle turning into a small angry toad, in midair, with a ninja girl on its back.]

And so is Krile apparently, because Yuffie had been bracing herself for another splash or crack of magic to strike it down, but instead...

She's staring into the eyes of... a toad... And just like that, the two of them tumble back to the ground, and she rolls off before she can crush the thing beneath her and instead kicks up dirt as she somersaults through the grass to a halt.
And from where she lies on her back, staring up at the blue skies above, she raises a hand to give Krile a thumbs up to let her know she's okay.

Meanwhile, the toad is staring straight at Krile, as if trying to threaten or intimidate her...]

Really? Do you talk to your mother with that mouth? [It's a very silly thing to say to an eagle that has temporarily been turned into an amphibian. But its toady little toes won't be like that for long--and, gripping her sleeve tightly around her injured arm, Krile doesn't want to see them turn back.] We'd better get out of here. But said smile does break free unrestrained when Krile does manage the fist bump, and a little giggle bubbles up in Yuffie's chest as she straps away her shuriken on her back and gets to walking when the little croak of the bird-toad startles her. Yeah, let's not stand around for much longer. They can walk and talk!]
Nah, some people can high five, some do a manly chest bump, but I like that one the best. It's like saying "I'm too glad you're okay to unfist my hand for a high five."

I'm not very manly at all. The fist-bump is definitely better.
[Bird-toad croak... Krile picks up the pace a little, with a glance over her shoulder, and bites her lip when speeding up seems to make the inside of her head rock.]
Um, speaking of that... [She looks down at her arm. Now that the fight is over, the pain that was suppressed by the adrenaline is starting to say "hey." But... it's not in Krile's nature to complain about pain. Baldesions don't do that. She's seen her grandpa take a lot worse than a bad handshake from an eagle and keep yelling orders to his soldiers anyway, and she should be able to do the same.] Never mind. Let's just get going.

[She gives the shuriken on her back a pat and tries to offer Krile her most award-winning reassuring smile, the armour on her glove making a little clang when she does.]

Right. No point stopping to heal if our friend tears us up again for not leaving fast enough. [She gives an interested look at Yuffie's glove. The materia she uses for spellcasting is something Krile wants to ask about sometime.] Just a Cure spell should do the trick.

[She pumps a fist against her chest, and there's a pause the moment it collides as she suppresses the urge to cough. Sturdy as a rock!!! Except she does feel a light sting at her side, but she ignores it.
Yuffie does, however, make a face as she briefly glances behind her at the weapon sheathed on her back.]
This thing took some damage, though. The stupid bird's talons scratched it all up. But I guess better that than my arm, right?
[And up ahead, she sees a flattened rock that looks almost perfect for sitting and taking a break.]

Okay. Very sturdy, not going to crash over at all.
[In spite of it, Krile giggles.]
Definitely better than your arm. [That big flat rock does look very inviting, and there's nothing wrong with taking a load off your feet after a fight where nothing went wrong and you didn't get hurt. Anyone might sit down a little heavily after that.] We'll have to find a good blacksmith to buff it out.

She unwraps her hand from her other arm and shrugs off her jacket, revealing a deep, ragged, and bloody gash from the bird's talons--the blood she's been trying to hold back flows again and she quickly grabs hold of it again with a hiss.]
